"society originates because the individual is not self-sufficient, but has many needs which he cannot supply himself" -- Plato.
i agree.which explains why im feeling a MEGA HUGE MOTHERBIG PART OF ME is silently crying now that a good part of my social circle is going through army 101 in tekong.meeting new people, making small talks, identifying common friends in attempts to find some common groun to further conversations and the nascent acquaintance.ahh we've all been in that position before,be it joining a new class,a new CCA,a (God forbids) PW group,a new school etc.!this time round though, there's more discipline and manliness, and the ruling parlance is something along the lines of "FALL IN!" instead of "CLASS STAND!".
anyhow,im quite happy i managed to meet most of my love before they disappear physically from my lives for 2 weeks.spontaneous stayover at aaron's (and the night workout!),going over to jarren's place with calvin before their enlistment, the farewell lunch with the vs bunch on saturday, seeing hairy and chengjie during exco gathering, and all the extended conversations over the line or online (hur hur so many lines!) the night before they bid the mainland farewell...very nice :) lets just hope their limited battery supplies see them through 12 more days or so!and it'll be cny and lots of meeting up again!
but as jarren said, this is not gonna be the first time when we do not meet/talk for 2 weeks in a row.we've been buried in our busy little lives,in isolation from each other, for periods way longer than 2 weeks in the course of the past 2 years.so sentimentality, yes.but over-sentimentality,no.so i shall move on!
im happy to announce that my body clock is steadily improving!switching back to the natural order of things.like right now as i type,im feeling fatigue crawl unto me...so its good.it means im not gonna sleep when the sun first beams across the island now!and this is just in time for my relief teaching stint at tj starting next week!i went for the staff mtg today and so far,all the people i've met are promising me that the next 6 weeks there will be a good one.lets hope the promise is translated to reality.
after e staff mtg ngiam and i went to airport to see shiwei off.but since this is not the first (or final) departure, there were no tears.which is a good thing, lest i get too emo for my own good and start my mind on this reflective mode, trying to peek ahead in the passage of time.after which i went back to sekolah victoria and boy oh boy every visit back just fills me with a sense of gladness.seeing happy but slightly blur-looking khaki panters in their terribly nerdy outfits and disposition, seeing punky but slightly pimpled sec3s embracing their newly-found sense of seniority in those white long pants, and of course, seeing "been that, done that,im the oldest here dude" plastered all across the faces of the sec4s just bring back so much memories.and the icing on the cake of today's visit was seeing mdm nabilah (while she was administering a biology class test) and other teachers like khooky who offered me employment, albeit really ad-hoc ones.seeing hong han today after a long long time was nice too!
and in the pursuit of material happiness,i shall assiduously look for tuition kids!i should be taking on my first tuition kid two weeks from now, after being introduced to this canteen aunty, whose son is sec1 this year in eastview sec.time to reconnect with those sec1 stuff!but the learning curve has become so much steeper for students nowadays.the whole curriculum has been, bluntly put, brought downwards and accelerated man.this evolving educational landscape (i know, pardon the cliche,i cant stand it when i hear principals using it too!!) is for real yo.anyhow,i shall look forward to helping out with the syf team too.thank God TJC is pretty near vs so travelling back shouldnt be a problem.
speaking of canteen aunties...HAHA I REALLY LIKE THIS BREED OF PEOPLE.be they from vs or rj...I LUB THEM ALL.hahaha seeing familiar faces in the canteen today just added to the whole familial atmosphere of being back in siglap link :)
im gonna get into the last year of being officially a TEEN next monday and ho ho ho TIME TO BE A MAN AND DO THE RIGHT THING.it is true that time flies, but the good news is WE ARE THE PILOTS.that was a quote i saw somewhere and i thought its quite positive so here's to a great year ahead and happy 19th to all babies of 1990 :)
